Course Objectives: Introduction to atmospheric fluid dynamics, including fundamental forces, conservation laws, governing equations, circulation and vorticity; and development of quasi-geostrophic theory.

Grading Policy:

Grades will be based upon your performance on the homework exercises, exams, and the attendance. The weighted contribution of each of these items to your final grade is given below:
35% Homework exercises
20% Midterm Exam I
20% Midterm Exam II
20% Midterm III/Final Exam
5% Attendance

Final grades are based on the following scale:
>90 % guarantees an A or A-
>80 % guarantees a B+, B, or B-
>70 % guarantees a C+, C, or C-
>60 % guarantees a D+, D, or D-
<60% results in an E

Other Class Policies:

Homework policy: Students are expected to work independently to solve the problems though discussions among classmates are encouraged. Plagiarism will not be tolerated. Please hand in your homework at beginning of the class on the due date. Late homework will not be accepted(result a "0" grade), so turn in as much as you get done even if that is not everything. I am available during office hours and homework session to assist you.

Office hour policy: Prior to asking for help during office hours, students are encouraged to: 1) review the relevant material in question in the text, 2) review the notes from the class, 3) attempt to complete the assignment or specific problem in question.

Examination policy: Students must take every exam with exceptions governed by University Policy. Plagiarizing, copying, cheating or otherwise misrepresenting ones' work will not be tolerated and will be dealt with as harshly as permitted under University Policy. Do not break the scientific code of honor.
