Rio Tinto/Kennecott donates $100,000 for regional climate research.
The Department of Meteorology announces a $100,000 donation from Rio Tinto/Kennecott to establish the Rio Tinto/Kennecott Regional Climate Research Fund for improving our understanding and ability to predict the climate of Utah, the Great Salt Lake Basin, and Oquirrh Mountain Block. The research fund will support research by Meteorology graduate students to help determine how Utah's water resources have and will be impacted by past and future climate change. Rio Tinto is one of the world's leading mining and exploration companies and the parent company of Kennecott Utah Copper, Kennecott Land Company, and Kennecott Exploration.
