MESONET Station Table File Change Listings

The station table file (sfstns_ut.tbl) which includes the names and locations of the Mesonet sites is frequently updated to include new stations, delete old stations, or to change the names or locations of stations already in the table.
 

A) Interactive Listing of New Stations

To get a listing of changes since a given date, enter the date below and hit go.

Input Year in the form YYYY MM DD, changes only available since 2001-01-01

The output will show new stations and the data of their insertion into the MesoWest database. Note that this is the date the station data is new to MesoWest, and does not imply when the station was actually installed by the station owner.

B) Interactive Listing of Station Metadata Changes

To get a listing of metadata changes since a given date, enter the date below and hit go.

Input Year in the form YYYY MM DD, changes only available since 2001-01-01

The output will show the stations that had metadata changes and will list which variables changed and the latest date a change occured at that site. Note that this is the date the metadata was updated in the MesoWest database, and does not imply when the station metadata was actually changed by the actual station owner.

C) Listing of Major Changes

 December 1, 1999 RAWS data for much of California, Washington, and Oregon were added to the Mesonet. Over 300 new stations are available.  ALSO, these additional raws were added with 5 letter HANDAR IDs. 

The station table file will be changed in the future so that all RAWS ids are based on the 5 letter HANDAR IDs. 

 December 7, 1999 19 Stations were added to the Agrimet Network that were either new or out of the original Mesonet area. ALSO, changed the Agrimet 3 letter IDs to the 4 letter IDs used by the Agrimet Program. Additional stations were mainly in Washington and Oregon. 
 December 14, 1999 WMP and WM2 (Wasatch Moutain Park, Utah) updated for location changes. New stations added including: C99 Canyons, UT, and LMR Lakeside Mtn. Range, UT.
 December 22, 1999 Added two sites: SHW - SherwoodHills, Utah. TPR - Trappers Loop Road, Utah.
 January 22, 2000 715 SNOTEL sites added around the western United States
 January 25, 2000 24 Utah Climate Center stations added- many provide real time data only every 1-3 days
 May 8, 2000 BAMI/NPS and BAMI/REINAS stations in California added
 May 24, 2000 Deseret Chemical Depot and SORD station information corrected
 June 14, 2000 Nevada DOT and Dugway Proving Grounds IDs changed. Nevada DOT changed to handbook 5 IDs, Dugway Proving Grounds changed to DPG**. SORD site A06 changed to SRD06 to avoid conflict with NWS/FAA.
 October 26, 2000 Minor modifications for a handful of new stations and location updates.
 November 16, 2000 Washington State DOT RWIS sites (41) and Northwest Avalanche Center sites (18) are being provided by the University of Washington.
 February 2, 2001 PNNL Hanford Meteorological Monitoring Center sites (30) are being provided by the University of Washington.
 March 29, 2001 Idaho Transportation Department sites (18). About a dozen new sites in Utah (mostly SNOWNET). The Arizona Meteorological Network (AZMET) with 26 sites. Washington State Department of Ecology Air Quality Network (41).
 April 4, 2001 RAWS stations have been updated. About 90 are either new or have new IDs assigned. This update is recommended to implement.
 May 23, 2001 KBCI stations in Idaho added. 16 stations.
 June 7, 2001 CBRFC sites IDs changed to Handbook 5. Stations processed from CBRFC increased from 12 to 81.
 June 21, 2001 172 stations provided by the California Nevada River Forecast Center have been added. Stations all have Handbook5 IDs.
 June 27, 2001 Nearly 300 RAWS stations were added to the table file. These stations are of generally the more temporary type and might be called "fire RAWS" stations. These site have been given temporary IDs that range from TR060 to TR350.
 July 11, 2001 Over 80 RAWS "non-Satellite" stations were added to the table file. IDs range from NS001 through NS086 as of today.
