IPEX Forecast Team Schedule

IPEX forecast support consists of two components: daily forecast support and IOP nowcasting support. The daily forecast support team provides daily and long-term prediction for pre-IOP planning. As described in the IPEX Operations Plan, this involves an evaluation of current and future weather, preparation of web-based forecast products that will be used to validate forecast techniques, and briefing the IPEX Operations Coordination Team at the noon daily planning meeting. At least one member of the daily forecast support team will possess local meteorological knowledge.

The nowcast support team will consist of the IOP Coordinator and at least one IPEX forecaster. Initially, the IOP Coordinator will be Jim Steenburgh with Tom Blazek or Larry Dunn providing nowcast support along with other interested IPEX forecasters. Larry or Tom will also fill in as needed on the daily forecast support team to ensure that one member of the team has local meteorological knowledge.

The daily forecast support team schedule identifies at least three forecasters for each day. This will allow members of the team to take a day off on an as needed basis or get some rest after long nowcasting duty cycles. Note that upper-division or graduate-level students from the University of Utah will participate in several forecast shifts.
