Todd Foisy Measuring Wind Speeds at the 2002 Winter Olympics

Meteorology Student and 2002 Winter Olympic volunteer Todd Foisy checks the wind speed at an Olympic venue. In a first-time cooperative partnership of federal, private and academic meteorologists, the Department was an integral member of the triad that provided weather support to the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. Over 30 meteorology students served as volunteers, providing official observations at venues and maintaining databases and software at the University. The Department delivered high-resolution analyses and forecasts to Olympic forecasters, and provided real-time access to over 2500 observing stations across the West.
