MesoWest
Fire Weather Monitor
MesoWest has been designed for use by National Weather Service
meteorologists and other professionals for protection of life and property.
Comments and suggestions for improvement are encouraged and can
be sent to meteo-mesowest@lists.utah.edu.
The
Fire Weather Monitor is designed to display a list of those weather stations
whose weather variables exceed values set by the user. The monitor is updated
every 5 minutes.
Settings
The user can change the settings as follows:
- Boolean Operators
- And (default value): Lists stations for which all of
the selected thresholds have been exceeded at the same time during the
selected time period. If all the conditions are satisfied at a station
more than one time, then the most recent observation will be displayed.
When the boolean operator And is selected, only one gust and RH
threshold are active. For example, if values are entered in both RH options,
then only the "RH less than" value will be used. If the threshold
"RH less than" is left blank and the threshold "RH greater than" has a
value entered, then the latter threshold will be used.
- Or: Lists all the stations that have exceeded the threshold
value for each variable during the selected time period. The stations
will be listed in descending order for each variable. For each station,
only the most extreme value that occurred in the time period will be listed.
- The number of hours from the most recent time for which the database will
be searched
- network type: RAWS, NWS/FAA and RAWS, or all networks
- region of interest: GACC, County Warning Area, Fire Weather Zone, or State
- Variable Thresholds:
- Sustained wind speed (mph) in excess of
- Gust (mph) in excess of (two thresholds available)
- Relative humidity (RH) less than
- Relative humidity (RH) greater than
- To not use one or more of the thresholds, leave the threshold blank
