MesoWest
Current Weather Summary
MesoWest has been designed for use by National Weather Service
meteorologists and other professionals for protection of life and property.
Comments and suggestions for improvement are encouraged and can
be sent to meteo-mesowest@lists.utah.edu.
The Current
Weather Summary provides access to current, 24 h maximum/mininum, and precipitation
summary information for all available weather stations within the selected region.
The page reloads every 5 minutes and is posts the most recent observation, as
well as maximum/minimum values over the past 24 hours. Longer records of each
station within the selected region are also available by clicking on the station,
then clicking on 'Past Data' in the left hand menu.
Settings
The user can change the settings as follows:
- network type: RAWS, NWS/FAA and RAWS, or all networks
- region of interest: GACC, County Warning Area, Fire Weather Zone, or State
Tabular Format
- The first column contains the station name defined by participating agencies
or firms. Long names are truncated.
- The next two columns contain the local and UTC time of the most recent observation.
- The next five columns, under 'Current', are the current reading of the weather
variables, as follows, TEMP: temperature (F), RH: relative humidity(%), WIND:
wind speed (knots), DRCT: wind direction, PKWND: peak wind or gust (knots).
- The next 5 columns, under '24 Hour', are MAX T, MIN T, MAX RH, MIN RH, and
MAX G, i.e., 24 hr maximum and minimum temperature and RH and maximum gust,
respectively.
- The last 4 columns under 'Precipitation': 1 HR, 3 HR, 6 HR, and 24 HR, are
totals of precipitation in inches in the 1 hr, 3 hrs, 6 hrs, and 24 hrs prior
to the most recent observation.
Subregions within the geographic region of interest are defined as follows:
- Geographic Area Coordination Center: Predictive Service Areas (PSAs)
- National Weather Service County Warning Area: forecast zones
- National Weather Service Fire Weather Zone: fire weather forecast zone
- State: counties
