MesoWest Precipitation Monitor

MesoWest has been designed for use by National Weather Service meteorologists and other professionals for protection of life and property. Comments and suggestions for improvement are encouraged and can be sent to meteo-mesowest@lists.utah.edu.

The MesoWest Precipitation Monitor provides access to precipitation totals in fixed time intervals for all available weather stations within the selected region. The page reloads every 5 minutes. The totals are calculated by looking at the most recent observation and observations during the past 24 hours. Longer records of each station within the selected region are also available by clicking on the station, then clicking on 'Past Data' in the left hand menu or by selecting the Precipitation Summary product.

The user can change the settings as follows:

Tabular Format

The first column contains the station name and identifier defined by participating agencies or firms. Long names are truncated. The second column contains additional station information (network and elevation). The third column contains the UTC and local time of the most recent observation. The next 5 columns are totals (in inches) of precipitation during the past 1 hr, 3 hrs, 6 hrs, 12 hrs, and 24 hrs previous to the most recent observation. Note that the most recent observation may not be close to the current time, particularly for NWS/FAA stations. The last two columns are the precipitation totals reported between the current time and midnight and between the current time and 13:00 local time.

Stations can be ordered either alphabetically by name, or by elevation from highest to lowest, by clicking on the appropriate link at the top of the tabular data..

The maximum, minimum, and average values for each subregion are summarized for that subregion.
