MesoWest
Temperature/Relative Humidity, Wind Speed Maximum/Minimum Summaries
MesoWest has been designed for use by National Weather Service
meteorologists and other professionals for protection of life and property.
Comments and suggestions for improvement are encouraged and can
be sent to meteo-mesowest@lists.utah.edu.
The 5
Day Maximum/Minimum Summaries provide access to 24-hour maxima and minima
of either temperature, relative humidity, or wind speed during the past 4 days
for all available weather stations within the selected region, as well as the
maximum and minimum values since local midnight at each station. Longer records
are also available by selecting a particular station, then clicking on 'Past Data'
in the left hand menu.
The page reloads every 5 minutes in order to display the most current conditions
available.
Settings
The user can change the settings as follows:
- variable to display: temperature (F), relative humidity (%), or wind speed
(knots)
- region of interest: GACC, County Warning Area, Fire Weather Zone, or State
- network type: RAWS, NWS/FAA and RAWS, or all networks
Tabular Format
The first column contains the station name and identifier defined by participating
agencies or firms. Long names are truncated. The second column contains the network
name and elevation. The third column contains the UTC and local time of the most
recent observation. The next two columns contains the maximum and minimum values
observed during the current day since midnight at the station. The time of the
maximum and minimum values are given according to the station's local timezone.
The rest of the columns provide maxima, minima, and times for the previous 4 days.
Stations can be ordered either alphabetically by name, or by elevation from highest
to lowest, by clicking on the appropriate link at the top of the tabular data..
Subregions within the geographic region of interest are defined as follows:
- Geographic Area Coordination Center: Predictive Service Areas (PSAs)
- National Weather Service County Warning Area: forecast zones
- National Weather Service Fire Weather Zone: fire weather forecast zone
- State: counties
The subregional average is reported at the bottom of each subregional division.
Notes
- The maximum and minimum values listed are the maximum and minimum determined
from the collection of available observations. Therefore, the actual maximum
temperature may have occurred between observations available in the MesoWest
database. Stations in the NWS/FAA network that report in METAR format include
additive groups which report the actual maximum/minimum temperature; we are
not incorporating that data into these summaries at the present time.
- Wind speed values refer to the sustained wind. In some cases, this could
be the wind averaged over a period as long as an hour. Summary information
on gusts is not available at this time.
- Quality control: In addition to the quality control available in other programs,
there is also a check for the amount of data that was available for each daily
period. Adequate, marginal, or inadequate amount of data available to define
the maxima and minima are displayed in green, yellow, or red respectively.
