Philosophy and Objectives: Meteorology 1020 is designed to introduce students of all backgrounds to the science and controversy of significant environmental issues such as global climate change, deforestation, and ozone depletion There are no prerequisites. Major topics include:

Global warming: Is it already happening?
Are the swings in weather just part of a natural cycle?
Why all the fuss about my SUV?
How do volcanos affect climate?
Will the ozone hole ever form over Utah?
How can we trust a computer model to predict the climate 100 years into the future when we can't even predict the weather a couple of days in advance?
What are politicians doing about global warming?

Course Format: A blend of lectures and hands-on access to information on climate change via the Internet.
