International Students
We encourage applications to our graduate program from qualified candidates from nations worldwide. About 30% of the faculty, students and staff of the Department of Meteorology come from of all over the world, like Asia, Europe, South America, and Africa. Currently, over 10% international students attend the University of Utah. The University hosts many programs for international students, and the International Center will assist you in many ways to become a successful member of the University. Further information can be found at the official web-site of the International Admissions Office and in this brochure (pdf-file)

The application procedure for international students is basically the same as for US students. In addition, international student applicants must meet the Graduate School requirement of a score of 500 or more on the TOEFL examination. We understand that it is sometimes difficult to provide all the required documentation. If you need assistance please contact Kathy Roberts, our own Graduate Admissions Coordinator.

Most of our applicants have degrees in meteorology, environmental science, physics, engineering, geophysics, or mathematics. We also encourage applicants with expertise in chemistry, computer sciences and other relevant disciplines. At the time of admission, international students should have at least earned a 4-year university degree (equivalent to the Bachelor’s degree) with a 75% ("B") average or better in a science or engineering discipline. Students in the final stages of completing their undergraduate program can submit an application for consideration prior to graduation, however admission is only permitted following the award of their 4-year university degree. Successful students start the graduate program at the beginning of the Fall semester in August.
