AMINTAPHIL is the
American Section of the International Association for Philosophy
of Law and Social Philosophy. We are an interdisciplinary membership
organization, whose purpose is to promote scholarly work in philosophy
of law and political and social philosophy.
Our primary activity is holding a scholarly discussion meeting
every two years, each on a specific topic. Recent topics include
Democracy in the Twenty First Century, Economic Justice, Just War Theory, Human Rights, Justice and the Global Economy, Groups,
Justice and Democracy, Radical Critiques of Law, and Liberalism
vs. Communitarianism.
All attending our meetings make written contributions: either principal
papers or commentaries on the principal papers. Authors distribute
their contributions to participants in advance of the meeting.
The meetings are devoted entirely to discussion of the papers.
Except for a “Presidential Address” at an evening banquet,
there are no formal presentations.

of law, political philosophy, political theory, or social philosophy.
The most common disciplines of the members are law, philosophy,
